NZ Production
PGG Wrightson Seeds is New Zealand's leading seed production company, working with customers all over the world to provide specialist multiplication of a range of vegetable, forage, crop, industrial and herb seeds.
New Zealand plays an important role in the production and supply of seed for global markets, producing temperate forage, amenity and vegetable seed due to our ideal climate, free-draining, fertile soils and availability of irrigation.
NZ seed production has a rich history, dating back over 100 years to when English settlers realised very quickly that the growing conditions on the Canterbury Plains were ideal for producing grass seed. The resulting seeds were also higher quality than those produced in England and soon after, merchants were exporting ryegrass and white clover seeds and peas back to the UK and Europe.
New Zealand has specialised for over a century in the export of grain and seed products, initially to Great Britain and in the last 50 years to Europe, Asia and the rest of the world.
Our farmers are highly skilled, world-leading innovators and the combination of climate and rich, fertile soils makes NZ the ideal environment for production of a wide range of small seed products.
We continue to invest in cutting-edge tools and new technology to improve our agronomic capabilities. Recently, we have added a new ‘New Holland T7.245’ tractor with a ‘Kverneland Optima’ drill to our equipment shed to support our diverse range of hybrid crops.
